Steak and Potatoes

In what has become a Wednesday tradition, we had grilled steak and potatoes for dinner tonight. I have to say this is a yummy and nutritious meal. In fact, it’s an absolutely amazing! Clearly, it’s even better since the Hubby makes it while I go to yoga. This week we grilled top sirloin steaks and filet mignons from Omaha Steak. Everything was so good that no sauce was needed. Incidentally, I had ordered them when you couldn’t find meat anywhere. Now with meat plants closing down in the Midwest, I’m really glad I did.

While the grill master was preparing an epic mid week meal, I was at yoga. And by at yoga, I mean attending virtually via Zoom. Wednesday’s class is with Christine of Movement Yoga. I love this class because it’s as functional as it is spiritual and physical. Truly, this class has helped me reopen my muscles and soft tissue in a way I’ve never experienced. Today’s class was all about the lower back and it was delicious. Some how Christine always knows what I need on a given day. In addition to the therapy balls, we did a great flow with plenty of twists, which I love.

Christine’s class was a nice compliment to my BBG arm workout from this morning. Maybe it’s just me, but I think the program has really ramped you in week 9. There were plenty of challenging, but productive exercises today. You know what I’m talking about. These are the exercises that make you cry as your doing them because they suck. However, you know these are exactly the exercises you need to take your fitness to the next level. A couple of these exercises were new this week. Fortunately, the app features good visual for each workout. Needless to say by the end of the fourth circuit my tempo was lagging.

Post workout the dogs and I went out for a couple of walks. Today’s weather was absolutely beautiful. Our humidity and heat disappeared overnight. It was a comfortable 68 degrees this morning compared with the sultry 80 degrees of Tuesday morning. Of course, I ran yesterday and will run tomorrow morning. I’m hopeful that the cooler weather will at least last through my run tomorrow morning. My afternoon indulgence was watching a new episode of Balthazar. This show is so good!

As for our evening, we sat outside as the food finished. In fact, Goalielocks came out and completed some of his work with us. It was a beautiful evening. After dinner, Goalielocks worked with Anakin on training. Since everything is closed down, we’ll be responsible for ensuring Anakin is a well trained dog.

Here’s a list of our day’s activities:

*Reading Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë and loving it!

*Morning meditation

*Mid Week Yoga Break with Christine from Movement Yoga

*Started reading Success Factors by Jack Canfield

*Watched Balthazar Season 2 episode 3

*Week 9 BBG arms resistance workout

*Took Anakin, Maya and Athena on multiple walks

*Obedience training Anakin with Goalielocks.

I’m obsessed

I’m obsessed with both tacos and the French show Balthazar. My love for tacos has been life long, but our left overs from last night’s taco dinner really fed the obsession nicely. As for Balthazar, it’s a French procedural that follows the chief medics examiner, the chief detective and their cases. In this case, the ME, Balthazar, sees and talks to dead people, which helps him solve crimes. Sadly, the only crime it hasn’t helped him solve is his wife’s murder. His character has a lot of bravado, but is also really complex. I love it!

617E083D-AA18-450E-B602-371B3CB4CFA3

The crimes they solve are complex and different. I love seeing the French countryside and Paris. Truly, I can’t wait to travel once this pandemic is over. Of course, the show is French, which means it is in French. However, I don’t mind reading the subtitles for words I don’t understand. Additionally, this provides a much needed respite from my phone. In order to understand French, I need to concentrate. Plus, reading the subtitles necessitates I don’t focus on my phone. Now you know I spent my afternoon!

When I woke up, my legs were super sore. I was totally expecting this after yesterday’s grueling BBG workout. Yep, my legs were so sore it made navigating the steps and sitting down tough. However, that was still not excuse for me to skip my run. The Piggie and I went for our Tuesday run this morning sore muscles and all. It was not the fastest run we’ve logged, but it went pretty well. Importantly, the run felt easier. I can tell my endurance is improving.

Afterwards, I did a truncated version of my stretch routine since I was attending yoga at noon. Between the stretch session and yoga, I checked in with my two nerds to ensure they were getting their school work down. As expected, a minor battle ensued, but at least work was being done. I guess that’s the yin and yang of my current life. Yoga and battles with the boys over school work. Alas, the battles are a part of the quilt I’m stitching that is motherhood in the time of Covid.  Thankfully, Family Circle has a comic that represents parenting siblings during the pandemic.

Tonight we’ll chill on the couch and cuddle with the puppies. I’ll probably peruse Amazon and buy more stuff I don’t need. Or perhaps I’ll buy some more goodies to accessorize Jake’s new instrument. Needless to say the ability to shop from my phone is perhaps a privilege that needs to be revalauted. It’s simply too easy to spend money. On the bright side, I have kept the Amazon, FedEx, UPS and USPS drivers very busy during this difficult time.

Here’s a list of our day’s activities:

*Reading Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë and loving it!

*Morning meditation

*Yoga For a Healthy Back with Monica from Open Heart Yoga Studio

*Started reading Success Factors by Jack Canfield

*Watched Balthazar Season 2 episode 2

*Week 9 BBG cardio

*Took Anakin, Maya and Athena on multiple walks

*Completed morning meditation

Taco Night

Tonight was taco night in our house courtesy of the Red Meat Lover’s Club and Potions in Motion Catering. They’ve paired up to deliver meals and drinks during the pandemic. Ordinarily they only cater events or hold meat lover’s meetings. Fortunately, I found the dynamic duo on our Socially Distanced Supper Club group on Facebook. This is our third such meal from restaurants in the group. Truly, it was an amazing meal and another great deal. Plus, who doesn’t love churros and margaritas in a can?!?!

Fortunately, I had a really productive day and worked up an appetite for taco night. I started today with a five minute meditation. Basically, after watching Jack Canfield’s talk on Saturday, I be decided to give daily morning and night time meditation try. Today was productive and less stressful than most Mondays. Truly, it will take awhile to gauge how impactful the daily meditation is to my life. Don’t worry I’ll be reporting back my findings on the blog.

Keeping in the spiritual vein, I went to yoga with Monica at 10:00 am. Honestly, I cannot say it enough. I absolutely love and value the opportunity to attend live yoga during this difficult time. Frankly, there’s no better way to stay centered than by spending time on the mat. Additionally, the yoga compliments my BBG resistance workouts and running. Keeping my muscles strong and flexible is the key to reducing injury. If you know me, you know I need everything available to reduce my propensity to injure myself.

Speaking of BBG workouts, today’s leg and glutes workout so tough it was almost obnoxious. By the time I finished the second circuit, my quads felt like cement blocks. She introduced a new exercise into the workout that could be categorized as cruel and unusual punishment. In this exercises you do a plank jack into a half burpee. Emphatically, I tell you this move was no joke. Truly, the only thing that got me through it was the music of Metallica. By the time I finished round three, my legs had gone from a constant flutter to a shake. Anyway, I know it’s good for me, but today’s workout will make my run tough tomorrow.

This afternoon my Jack Canfield Success Factors and Success Factors Workbook arrived. Anakin and I were anxious to start reading it. Since I read my fiction books at night, I’ve decided to carve out my coffee time to read a chapter and complete the workbook every morning. Undeniably, this is the best season of our lives to start carving out the lives we want for ourselves. While it won’t happen overnight, we can start laying the ground work now. Today I feel hopeful. It’s not an everyday thing these days, but I feel like we have to find the hope and build on it.

Here’s a list of our day’s activities:

*Reading Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë and loving it!

*Gentle Flow Yoga with Monica from YogaMundo

*Started reading Success Factors by Jack Canfield

*Watched Balthazar Season 2 episode 1

*Week 9 BBG legs and glutes resistance workout

*Took Anakin, Maya and Athena on multiple walks

*Completed morning meditation

Sunday Brunch Day

It was Sunday brunch day here in our house this morning!!!! And it was fabulous, but first can we pause an acknowledge that I actually know what day it is?!!! #winning. Naturally, today’s brunch wasn’t like our usual brunch. There were no caramel rolls due to my laziness and an inability to find yeast. Moreover, there were no house guests. While I missed eating the caramel rolls I shouldn’t be eating, I definitely missed having family and friends over.

0004113A-1DA3-4991-9D38-042717BABEFE

The Hubby made his world famous cholesterol bake, while I made waffles in lieu of the rolls. I don’t know about you, but my favorite way to eat a waffle is with fruit and whipped cream. This, I planned to make a strawberry sauce. Thankfully, My Mayor helped me with the strawberry sauce by slicing up the fruit while I finished making the waffles. As I finished the waffles, the hubby cooked up a bunch of bacon as the cholesterol bake cooked. Yes, brunch was going to be yummy!

01303769-3517-4B38-958A-984013620EA6

It wouldn’t be brunch, however, if there weren’t mimosas. Importantly, we made sure that we had a sufficient mimosa bar as we ate breakfast and played games. This included three types of orange juice and three different sparkling wines. For our wines, we had an Asti, a champagne and a Prosecco. All of them were yummy! Clearly, the secret to a successful brunch is a top notch mimosa bar.

Admittedly, the hubby and I may have enjoyed more mimosas than was advisable. Fortunately, it’s not a long walk from the kitchen table to the couch. We did play a rousing game of Cards Against Humanity in which all of our cards sucked and the Hubby one. This was a first! I’ve never played a this game where turn after turn everyone’s cards suck. I’ve also never played a board or card game where the Hubby one. Normally, Goalielocks win this one.

Afterwards, the hubby took a much deserved nap on the couch as I hung out with the puppies and read news on my phone. I also perused Facebook for awhile, but quickly tired of my newsfeed. Meanwhile, the boys enjoyed the dry ice that came with our Omaha Steak delivery.  Then for some reason, I felt compelled to eat more Cadbury Mini Eggs. This was a bad idea because while they are tasty, I had already eaten too much. In fact, I don’t think Swiss chocolate would have gone done any easier. Sadly, I’m not a baller, so I couldn’t fall asleep no matter how hard I tried.

This evening Jake called from Tech School. Spoiler alert – he’s doing awesome. I am often reminded of how incredible he is as a human and humbled that he’s my child. He’s chose a path of sacrifice and service, but this same path will ensure he and his family have a bright future. To be honest, the most difficult part of the pandemic is that we can’t visit him. It’s tough to be away from him during this time and to not even have an option to see him sucks. At any rate, words remain inadequate to describe how proud I am of my airmen.

Since the Hubby and I were tired and on the phone with Jake, the Mayor decided to make dinner. He was craving Caribbean jerk chicken with black beans and rice. Fortunately, he’s in the culinary academy at school. Truth be told, my Mayor is probably the best cook in the house now. Or maybe that’s how we feel since we don’t have to cook it?!? At any rate, we’re definitely winning! I hope your Sunday was as fantastic and mimosa filled as mine. I don’t know about you, but I can’t wait to enjoy brunch with friends and family again.

Here’s a list of our day’s activities:

*Reading Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë and loving it!

*One mimosa, two mimosa, red mimosa, blue mimosa

*Completed BBG day 7 week 8- and then there was rest day

*Took Anakin, Maya and Athena on multiple walks

It Was A Hot One Today

It was a hot one today! This morning it felt like summer as the dew point rose to 74 degrees. Initially, I was worried that it would be too hot for Piggie and I to run, but I felt we could try it. Indeed, if it was too hot too run or jog, we’d simply walk our route. Either way I’d be getting in a workout.

As it happened, today’s run was pretty good. I felt good throughout the run and probably could have gone further. However, I’m not going to add mileage too soon and get injured again. Also, my running partner is out of practice too. We’ll be adding mileage in gradually as we acclimate to the heat and running again. Athena needed several stops today. She doesn’t like when the path is crowded with bikers and walkers. When people are coming are way, she’ll pullover to the grass and stop dead in her tracks. Honestly, it’s perfect for maintaining social distancing on the path.

In addition to our traffic stops, we take our water break every half mile. During these stops, Athena rehydrates and I spill some over her to cool her down. Most of the time, she’ll try to knock her gentle leader off by rolling in the grass. While she catches her bread, and I do too, I enjoy taking in the natural beauty. The path has been full of butterflies, dragonflies, birds, lizards and squirrels. Truly, it always reminds me how lucky I am to live here. Our neighborhood is absolutely gorgeous. While we headed back we came across a bunch of cops lining up for a birthday parade, which was pretty cool. As soon as we got home, Piggie got a nice, old shower courtesy of my hubby and the garden hose. She loved it!

Afterwards, I did my stretching routine in my room. I ended the great stretch session with legs up the wall, which is one of the best yoga poses out there. Once I had completed stretching, I enjoyed the left over Cesar salad for lunch. Post lunch, the Mayor and I headed to Walgreens. I was looking for new cleaning gloves- they had none. However, I owed the Mayor some Cadbury Mini Eggs, so we picked up some Easter candy and a peel off mask and pore vacuum. So no gloves, but a bunch of things I probably didn’t need (especially the candy.)

The boys were excited for try the charcoal peel mask. Consequently, I had both boys wash their faces, so I could apply the mask. The mask is messy, but easy enough to apply. Once the masks were applied, I obviously made them pose for some great pictures. You’ll love the one of my Mayor making a whimsical face. I tried to get a picture of Goalielocks’ expertly completed man bun, but he was not cooperating.

They then spent fifteen minutes letting the mask dry. It didn’t peel off as easy as I hoped, but I may not have applied it thickly enough to their faces. It did clean the pores especially in the T Zone. Importantly, it did leave some redness on my Mayor’s face as he does have more sensitive skin. Thankfully, the redness was short lived. Most importantly, it gave us something to try together and have fun doing it. I have a facial steamer from Amazon coming, so we’ll be trying it again then.

Tonight we’ll be hanging out on the couch watching movies. If I’m being honest, we’ll also probably finish the amazing carrot cake from J Alexander’s. Today has been a nice and relaxing with no virtual school. Unfortunately or fortunately, Florida has closed schools for the rest of the year. Consequently, I’ll be in virtual school hell until the end of May. Say a prayer that myself and my fellow virtual school parents will survive until then. Please also say a prayer for our childrens’ teachers that have to deal with virtually schooled kids and their parents. The teachers are the real heroes here!

Here’s a list of our day’s activities:

*Reading Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë and loving it!

*Cleaner Anakin’s cage after he had an accident overnight. Thankfully, it wasn’t diarrhea!

*Completed BBG day 6 week 8- cardio

*Took Anakin, Maya and Athena on multiple walks

*Ran 2.5 miles with Athena

*Pulled my hair out (again) managing my teenagers virtual schooling.

Overwhelmed?

Does this whole quarantine situation have you feeling a bit overwhelmed? If you answered yes, you’re in good company with the rest of us. Since this is a situation we have never been in or lived through, the experience of everything is emotionally taxing. Not only are the dynamics of the workplace changing, but those working from home are now tasked with teaching their children. Okay, maybe we’re not teaching our children, but we’re trying to manage their schoolwork, project, odd and even day schedule and Zoom meetings.

7E79981E-CE58-4EA1-B3CF-95D2B1E6049E

Honestly, it’s a lot. In the couple of weeks, I’ve noticed people starting to buckle under the pressure of this virus. For example, our neighborhood Facebook group has always been a source of entertainment. People liked to complain about driver’s inability to navigate the round about properly or the snow birds driving 20 miles under the speed limit. Most of the time, the quarrels on there were mostly benign.

41A3CBD9-255E-417A-A491-5267B399939D

However, the virus has brought out the crazy. To be honest, it started pretty early on when a guy from our sister neighborhood came through ours and saw kids playing basketball on our courts. (Our neighborhood kept its courts open.) This particular neighbor felt that it was totally cool to take pictures of the 12 year old boys playing basketball, so he could post them to the group and shame them. Moreover, his approach was probably the most pathetic aspect of his post. Why a grown man would post on Facebook that he didn’t know how to explain to his son why they kids could play basketball and he couldn’t is beyond me. I don’t know dad, but grow a pair and tell him you’re not comfortable with him playing basketball right now.

4A898FB9-0353-4BD5-A4E4-25EC890AC469

Flash forward to the last couple of weeks and things have really gotten unhinged. Perhaps the funniest is the lady that took to Facebook to complain about a man that spit into the grass while he was walking. Now said lady wasn’t on the path or near him, she just witnessed the act. I’m guessing she’s not a runner or she would know people have done a lot worse on the path. Logically, I can see how she’d be upset if she was planning to lick the grass or roll around it. Otherwise, I don’t get the need to complain on Facebook about it.
D62B6397-C662-4410-869F-4893200A304D

Oh but this week brought in sheer Facebook gold. First, someone distributed a letter about the tribulation and the rapture anonymously via mailboxes. While I agree that this person was wrong to use mailboxes in the distribution of this letter, believing in the rapture and end times does not make you a religious zealot or mental health patient. Nonetheless, this poor kid has been compared to the criminal that mailed anthrax to people post 9-11 and school shooters. Clearly none of these people have spoken to my grandma. I guess believing and sharing tenets of the Christian faith in this manner is terroristic. Fortunately, they’ve called the police and the postmaster general. I’m sure both officials will be anxious to throw the book at this perp for sharing their religious beliefs.

But perhaps the most egregious and offensive post came at the expensive of a mom and her child at the local grocery store. This resident was horrified that this child felt the need to touch things in the laundry aisle and wasn’t within an acceptable distance of their parent. Now it’s okay to have your opinion, but to publicly post it to shame the other mom is awful. What if the child had sensory issues or special needs?! What if the mom was feeling completely overwhelmed and let her kid have space? Why the judgment?

This pandemic sucks, undoubtedly, but we have a choice in how we respond. We can choose to be a light and extend people grace. We can choose to support our friends, neighbors and small businesses. Moreover, we can choose to take this time to make our lives better by improving connections and improving upon ourselves. Or we can choose to be assholes. I don’t know about you, but I choose to be kind, positive, the best virtual teacher I can be and to give people grace during these difficult times. And most importantly, as you may have guessed from all the memes I’ve posted, I choose to laugh.  Rant over!

Here’s a list of our day’s activities:

*Reading Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë and loving it!

*Cleaner Anakin’s cage after he experience some nighttime, explosive diarrhea.

*Completed BBG day 5 week 8 – full body workout

*Took Anakin, Maya and Athena on multiple walks

*Picked up dinner from J. Alexanders

*Pulled my hair out (again) managing my teenagers virtual schooling.

Cloudy Night

It’s a cloudy night after a hot and humid mornings here in South Florida. In fact, I was lamenting to my parents that are few point was more than double their ambient air temperature. Who needs a 72 degree dew point in April?!! Not this girl!!! Fortunately, there was sufficient cloud cover to prevent our temperature from rising into the 90s again.  Meanwhile, the temperature in Minnesota was in the low 30s when they checked on my Grandma today.

5B528418-2F3D-49BF-BB02-21C3EA953B5D

Initially, I tried to wake up earlier so I could run earlier. Sadly, the best laid plans don’t always work. I guess you could say that I was a bit slow moving this morning. Nonetheless, Athena and I still got out for our morning run. Since it was so humid and still hot, I carried a water bottle for her and planned stops to rest throughout. Athena is my favorite running partner still home, so I have to take care of her.

211C467E-10BA-428D-AC57-C5280C9E38EA
Additionally, running in the heat and humidity can be dangerous especially with a thyroid issue. Consequently, we took water breaks every half mile. Moreover, for our second mile I changed my running strategy. Instead of running the full second mile, I alternating running for a minute with walking for thirty seconds. I love changing up the workout and this is a good way to build endurance safely.

Post run I did my stretch routine and relaxed on the couch before yoga. I also took this time to rehydrate a little. Thursday yoga with Jenn was an awesome compliment to my run this morning and Christine’s class yesterday. Today we did a lot of work on our hips, legs and back. My shoulders were sore from all the work I did on them yesterday, but they loosened up after my run. Thankfully, the work we did on the lower body in class today is essential to keeping my legs and hips healthy. I have to admit running without pain is pretty great!

When I’m not working out, I’m hanging out with my precious puppies or harassing my children to complete their work. I much prefer my sweet Anakin to yelling at teeenagers. At this point in the quarantine, I feel like my life’s allusions are akin to a train wreck. Fortunately, I know I’m not alone in this feeling. Moreover, I know this is a temporary situation. Nonetheless, writing and talking about the pressures of life in a pandemic is absolutely necessary and healthy. If could describe your quarantine experience in less than two words, how would you describe it?

Here’s a list of our day’s activities:

*Reading Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë and loving it!

*Watched episode one of Sanditon and Schmitt’s Creek

*Completed BBG day 4 week 8

*Walked 1 mile with Athena and Anakin

*Attended Gentle Yoga For Strong Back with Jenn from Open Heart Yoga Studio

*Took Anakin, Maya and Athena on multiple walks

*Pulled my hair out (again) managing my teenagers virtual schooling.

Steak Night

We made it steak night in South Florida. Since I had to go pick up a prescription at Target today, I perused the meat section. Thankfully, they had a full case of steaks at a great price. Naturally, I made the hubby’s day and bought two cases. We also had corn on the cob left from the farm box. Fortunately, the South Florida weather allows for using the grill 365 days of the year. I don’t think there’s any better scent at dinner time than a charcoal grill. Thus we had a delicious meal with grilled sweet corn, steaks, roasted potatoes and fresh cucumber salad.

6A8998F2-E2CE-4AF3-93EB-7D87663D30D4

Of course I earned this delicious meal with a hard day’s work virtual schooling my boys, walking the dogs, working out and going to yoga. In fact, I even started an executive certificate program through FAU’s Business School. Needless to say it was a busy and productive day. I gave myself a generous reward tonight after dinner as I finished off the last remaining Cadbury eggs in the house. Thank God Easter is over because two months in quarantine with a healthy supply of Cadbury Eggs would quickly double my BMI.

We’ve been under quarantine for almost a month now. For those of us with a March/April birthday or anniversary it is a hard time to celebrate. I mean I officially entered my fourth decade of life with no grand celebration, party or trip. Clearly once the pandemic is over I will be primed to celebrate in a grand fashion. Of course, I’ll also be up to celebrate all my friends birthdays and anniversaries. After this is over, we will all be ready to party and drink together.

ADE6E9DF-0896-4E4E-A541-E255B8C1E13F

Meanwhile, I’m trying to stay healthy by eating sort of responsibly (less the Cadbury egg today) and working out regularly. This way when we can go out and party again, I’ll be able to fit into the clothes already in my closet. In fact, I started the 8:2 plan again. This helped me manage my weight once my thyroid died, which was a tall order. The 8:2 is a type of intermittent fasting in which you eat regularly for 5 days and then only 800 calories for two days. It is also referred to the 5:2 where you eat 500 calories on the fasting days. Since I’m active, I’m eating 800 calories on my fasting days.

Today’s BBG resistance workout was arms and abs. I realized that I really hate drop pushups and raised leg sit-ups with a twist. Sadly, I suck at both and they suck the life force out of me. They’re simply inhumane. Most importantly, the workout was really taxing. Consequently, my shoulders were quite sore afterwards. To be clear, they were tight when I woke up. I’m a side sleeper, which is doing neither of my shoulders any favors.

Fortunately, Christine’s yoga class was all about the shoulders. Her yoga classes are unlike any other I have taken before. I like to think of it as a cross between physical therapy and yoga. It’s extremely functional. In her classes, Christine uses these magical balls (get your mind out of the gutter) to really get into and massage your soft tissue. To be honest, it does hurt at times, but it’s an effective and not damaging pain. She combines the therapy ball massage with stretching and strength building exercises. The end result is muscles that are stronger more flexible and more mobile. It has been the perfect class for healing my body. You really should check her out (link is below.)

Here’s a list of our day’s activities:

*Reading Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë and loving it!

*Watched Balthazar and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia

*Completed BBG day 3 week 8 arms and abs

*Walked 1 mile with Athena and Anakin

*Attended Midweek Yoga Break with Christine from Movement Yoga

*Took Anakin, Maya and Athena on multiple walks

*Worked on Obedience Training with Anakin inside.

*Pulled my hair out (again) managing my teenagers virtual schooling.

Now It’s Actually Tuesday

After thinking Monday was Tuesday, now it’s actually Tuesday. To be clear, it’s really not my fault that each day last two weeks. If they didn’t last so long, it would be significantly less confusing. Tuesday brought more virtual school, a run and some yoga. It was a pretty busy day.

F39EFFF1-6F1E-4A92-995F-826FF03E9844
Of course, it’s exceedingly hot and humid here in South Florida. Hence, I was trying to convince myself that I should skip my run out of an abundance of caution. Since my diagnosis of Graves’ disease, I don’t tolerate heat well. Also, I run with my puppy and didn’t want to put her in danger of possibly overheating. The actual real feel temperature at 10:00 am this morning was absolutely ludicrous.

Then I realized all of this excuses are exactly why I needs to run today. Since it was so hot, I had to prepare a water bottle for Athena and to take it a bit slower. Indeed I planned to take more walking breaks and puppy water break in the shade to minimize the risk of either of us overheating. At the end of the day, it was a tough, slow and hot run, but I felt amazing afterwards. It wasn’t my best run by any means, but I stayed on task and made no excuses and achieved my goal.

Fortunately, they were running the sprinklers in the neighborhood, so Athena got to run through the sprinklers to cool down. Consequently, Goalielocks had a towel ready for the Piggie when we got back. Piggie got toweled off and we both got some fresh water. While Athena relaxed on the cool tile floor, I went into my room to complete my post run stretching. Even though I was attending yoga at noon, I still spent 20 minutes rolling out my leg, glutes and hips. Thankfully, I have a lot less pain in my legs and ankles since adding a vigorous post run stretch session to my routine.

Yoga was noon was awesome as usual. I love having my regular 12:00 pm yoga date with Monica and Pam. They’re two of my favorite people. Our class started with some alternate nasal breathing, which is a great tool for relaxation. In fact, I’ve used it to effectively manage pain when I couldn’t hold down medicine. Honestly, my yoga practice and yoga family have really helped me move forward on my healing journey.

The afternoon I spent with the puppies watching the remained of Balthazar season one. Fortunately, season two drops on Prime next Monday. I love Balthazar for so many reasons. Perhaps the best part is that it forces me to put down my phone and pay attention to the subtitles. While I studied French in both high school and college, I definitely need the subtitles as a safety blanket. If you’re looking for a good, procedural show to binge watch, I highly recommend it.

Last night I started Wuthering Heights after finishing my last book To the Lighthouse, by Virginia Woolf. After reading the introductions, there were three, I only ended up reading only one chapter. I’m sure that I’ll finish this book pretty quickly given that there’s still a ban on going anywhere. Fortunately, I love to read and love literature. After this book, I think I’ll go back and reread The Decameron as it’s topically relevant to our current situation.

Here’s a list of our day’s activities:

*Reading Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë

*Watched Balthazar and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia

*Completed BBG day 2 week 8 recovery workout – full body

*Ran 2.5 miles with Athena at a snail’s pace in a sauna

*Attended Gentle Flow Yoga with Monica from Open Heart Yoga Studio

*Took Anakin, Maya and Athena on multiple walks

*Worked on Obedience Training with Anakin inside.

*Pulled my hair out (again) managing my teenagers virtual schooling.

Oh It’s Monday….

So I was about to title my post “Terrific Tuesday” until I realized oh it’s Monday.  Clearly, the quarantine calendar is messing with my mind.  One would think I would know the day after Easter Sunday was Monday yet here I am enjoying my “terrific Tuesday.”  Nonetheless, while I may not know what day it is today, today was a good day.  Thankfully, I experience minimal trouble with the virtual schooling.  It was a good day to teach.  However, please knock on wood as there are plenty of hours in the day for this situation to still devolve.  Albeit it as of know, my teaching record for the day is impeccable.

As I noted in my Saturday post, the only milk available at Target expired on 4/13.  Goalielocks and the Mayor were complaining that I bought milk that about to expire.  However, let the record show that as of this morning, both gallons of milk had already been drank.  Fortunately, I was able to actually get a delivery on the schedule for Target today, so I took it.   I am so grateful that I was able to get four more gallons of milk as this should keep me out of the grocery store until the weekend.  Here’s to no week day grocery trips!   There is, however, the chance that I may mistakenly go to the store on Friday thinking it was Saturday.   Either way I’ll count it as a victory.

Easter was such a great holiday as weird as it was under these conditions.  Nonetheless, Easter is a great time to evaluate one’s perspective on life and re-create oneself.  Additionally, the additional time we all now have due to COVID-19 is a great opportunity to create the life that we desire.   During this time at home, I’ve continued my exercise program, started learning Norwegian and signed up for an executive certificate through the FAU School of Business.  Now I know what you’re thinking, I’m being obnoxious like Gwyneth Patrow here, but Duolingo is amazing and super accessible. In my defense, I have also spilled tortilla chips all over myself. 3vf4sx

It’s also an exceedingly scary and isolating time.  Thank god for my weighted blanket and lavender.  In all due seriousness, its a great time to re-connect and connect with people in a way we haven’t done in years.  Losing Michele last week cut like a knife and left me regretting not reaching out more often.  Truly, it’s better to reach out than to regret not doing it.  I have to admit I hate talking on the phone and usually prefer text.  However, in the current social distancing environment, I really enjoy speaking with people on the phone and hearing their voices.   Honestly, I feel like I’m back in the 1990s based on gas prices and the time I spend talking on the phone.
