Rascal

I got this sweet rascal a very cute shirt courtesy of the Mandolorian and Kohl’s. It’s absolutely adorable on him. I wanted to buy Athena a dress, but we didn’t think she would fit into any of them. They did have the cutest yellow gingham dress that I wanted to get for her. She’s got such a friendly, cute personality, the dress really would be perfect for her.

After our morning errands, I chilled on the couch for quite awhile before deciding to run. Fortunately, today’s run went much better than Thursday’s runs. Thankfully, I didn’t throw up after this one. I toyed with the idea of doing the BBG ab workout, but decided to take it easy the rest of the day.

For dinner, I was feeling like Greek food. Consequently, we had lemon lamb chops, lemon potatoes and homemade bread. I also made a chickpea salad as an accompaniment for dinner, but also as something for me to snack on through the week. On this new program, I have to be careful about the snacks and foods I choose. A chickpea salad with lots of fresh vegetables is a perfect fit.

The rest of the night will be spent watching the Minnesota Wild beat the Edmonton Oilers. Naturally, the rascal, aka Anakin, and Athena will be chilling with the hubby and I as we take in some hockey. Once the game is over, we’ll head to bed because I’m tired. Lastly, congrats to the Finnish Men’s hockey team as they won the gold medal last night.

Some Days

Some days are just tougher than others. Work was super slow. Honestly, I wasn’t feeling it at all. Nonetheless I managed to pull out a few sales, which was great. I’m hoping that the lead flow will pick up considerably next week. Otherwise the last week of February is going to be a long one.

Perhaps it was the weather that set off my not so fabulous mood. It was unusually cloudy and gray here for most of the morning. I get it, I’m entirely spoiled when it comes to the weather. Nevertheless, I hate those days that are bleak and gray. To be fair, the cloudy weather didn’t last all day. Thank god we live in Florida where if you wait a few hours, the weather will be beautiful again.

My morning did start off with a wonderful cup of coffee from Dunkin. In fact, it was so good I degusted it as I started my work day. This is the third week that I’ve been off of Splenda. I had to give up artificial sweeteners as part of my new program. It’s something I’ve been wanting to do for awhile and the program gave me the push to do it. I had toyed with the idea of breaking out the teapot for tea, but decided against it.

I’m looking forward to an relaxing evening of relaxation and Netflix on the couch with the Hubby and our puppies. We started watching the show Norsemen on Netflix. It’s absolutely fabulous. If you loved Vikings and Monty Python, you’ll love this show. They filmed it in both Norwegian and English, who I is great. I like having the captions on even while watching the English version as some of the accents are quite thick.

Arduous Week

It’s been an arduous week at work. Unfortunately, the workload continues to be super light. I have been able to make the most of the resources I’ve been given. In fact, I’m one of the top in the department, but I’m bored. I like being busy at work. Boredom is not a friend of mine. Although the quizzical characters I get to talk to some days do keep it interesting.

I’ve been continuing the BBG program. I’m re-doing last week’s workouts since I missed the ab workout. It’s an arduous, but productive program. It’s super challenging like P90X, but it takes less time. The reasonable time investment is a huge plus with the program. Moreover, the program includes four cardio and three stretch workouts, so your week is well rounded with strength, cardio and stretch. This was a problem for me previously and most likely why I injured myself.

I’m going to work tomorrow since the hubby has to work as well. We’re required to work two weekends during the open enrollment period, which isn’t terrible. Hopefully, it will be a productive Saturday. Typically, the lead flow is light, but if the quality is high one can have a great production day. I’m hoping for high volume and high quality. Otherwise, I’ll be cleaning the waxy surface of my desk. This weekend we have no hockey, so Sunday will be spent relaxing.

Yesterday we got to talk to Jake, which is always a treat. He looked great despite being exhausted. The last couple of weeks he’s looked tired, but yesterday he looked great. I can’t wait to see him again. It will be so special to have all my boys under one roof! That day can’t come soon enough! Did I mention I can’t wait?!?

Super Bowl Memes

So the Super Bowl memes have been killer since Sunday. Especially the super bowl memes involving the halftime show. Like most folks my age, I absolutely loved the halftime show. It brought me straight back to the late 90s-l and early 2000s. Consequently, I decided to compile some of my favorite memes from the Super Bowl. Your welcome.

Super Sunday

No surprise here, but our Super Sunday was spent at the rink. This was definitely a source of angst when the schedule first came out. The Mayor had two make up games Sunday afternoon in Pines and Coral Springs. Originally, the games were supposed to be at home, but a fire at the rink derailed that plan. The first game was a biggie because if they won it, they’d make states. Spoiler alert, they won!

They played the Florida Warrior, who they hadn’t played previously. I thought we got off to a bit of a shaky start, but once the Mayor got the scoring started it was all over. The boys ended up winning 6-0 with goals from five different kids and tons of assists. That’s exactly what you want to see on the scoresheet. Admittedly, we were all a bit nervous because the kids hadn’t practiced for over a week. Thank god they weren’t too rusty.

Between games we headed to Publix to grab the Mayor a sub. They barely had any time between games, but he needed to eat something. The second game was a much harder contest against Goldenwolves Black. It was a good, fast-paced game with little drama, but in the end they lost 2-0. Honestly, they could have won the game, but couldn’t finish. The Mayor had a great opportunity, but his stick broke on the shot.

Naturally, like everyone else my age, I wanted to see the halftime show. The two things i was excited to watch were the Air Force Heritage Flight Flyover and the halftime time show. Fortunately, I was able to catch the flyover right before the Mayor’s game started. And as luck would have it, the game ended minutes before the show started. I was able to watch the halftime show with my fellow hockey mom and dads as we collectively reminisced over the music and artists performing. It was magical.

Happy Valentine’s Day!

A happy Valentine’s Day poem courtesy of Lord Byron.

“She Walks In Beauty” Lord Byron

She walks in beauty, like the night

Of cloudless climes and starry skies;

And all that’s best of dark and bright

Meet in her aspect and her eyes;

Thus mellowed to that tender light

Which heaven to gaudy day denies.

One shade the more, one ray the less,

Had half impaired the nameless grace

Which waves in every raven tress,

Or softly lightens o’er her face;

Where thoughts serenely sweet express,

How pure, how dear their dwelling-place.

And on that cheek, and o’er that brow,

So soft, so calm, yet eloquent,

The smiles that win, the tints that glow,

But tell of days in goodness spent,

A mind at peace with all below,

A heart whose love is innocent!

Dinner Date

The hubby and I had a wonderful dinner date with my hubby tonight at the new Greek restaurant near us. Initially, we had planned to go Friday night, but he ended up working late, so we rescheduled to tonight. We both had to work this morning, so neither of us really wanted to be out late last night. And out course by late, I do mean like 8:30.

I’m had lamb chops and he had meatballs. Both were really tasty and my lamb chops were cooked perfectly. I also had a yummy drink with passion fruit and vodka. After we paid our tab, the bartender took a shot of Mastiha liquor with us. I’ll be buying some at Total Wine soon. It was sweet, but not too sweet and was really smooth.

Now we’re back home chilling on the couch watching the Minnesota Wild take on Carolina. The puppies are cuddling with as well even though hockey makes the Piggie nervous. She’s been quite the cuddle pig as of late, which is great. Athena is just the sweetest puppy. Anakin is watching the hockey game and keeping to himself. Usually at this point of the night, he’s trying to attack someone’s feet. Tomorrow night our dinner date will be at the rink.

Grocery shopping

It is me or has grocery shopping become a super painful experience? Now mind you, I don’t actually go to the store and shop, but the prices in my Shipt and store apps continue to go up. Last summer, a gallon of milk was $2.49. Now that same gallon of milk is $3.99, which adds up when you’re going through more than seven gallons in a week.

Fortunately, I don’t do a lot of driving, so I haven’t experienced much pain at the pump. My hubby, who had been driving to Miami for work, experienced the misery at the pump in full force. Between the increase in costs of food and fuel, I feel like my mortgage will soon be my cheapest bill. Thankfully, the butcher box prices haven’t gone up yet.

Anyway, when I was lamenting the pain off grocery shopping today, I was killing it at work. Today was one of those days that you don’t want to step away from the phone because every call is going you way. Those days don’t happen early, so I was all about that life today. I did, however, take a short lunch break to get in my run. Fortunately, the break in the action didn’t muck up the mojo. Of course, the highlight of the day was getting our weekly call from Jake. Here’s hoping tomorrow is just as good!

Relaxing

So after a bit of a hellish, I spent yesterday evening getting a very relaxing massage. It was just what the doctor ordered. Last night I had a new masseuse, who unsurprisingly was shocked at how tight my leg muscles are. I’ve heard that from every masseuse I’ve ever used and I swear I do stretch. Of course, the rest of my muscles were also super tight and I’m feeling it today. I had no idea you could get knots in your muscles over your ribs. Ouch!

My legs were pretty sore today, from both the massage and leg day, which made my run quite arduous. I also haven’t eaten much over the past few days on account of an questionable stomach. This definitely didn’t help make my run any easier. As I finished my run, I saw my masseuse’s face telling me to stretch more, so I did spend some time stretching during my phone calls. I’m loving my new wireless headset.

Speaking of relaxing, I haven’t been great at sticking to a good yoga practice. I definitely need it, but by the time I can actually practice I’m way too tired. Hopefully, I can get myself back into a regular routine of yoga and massages. If the way my muscles feel today is any indication, I need to be getting massages regularly or maybe every other day.

Weight of the World

I took a few days off from blogging after feeling like the weight of the world has been on my shoulders. It was an emotional weekend as Goalielocks played his last youth hockey game. His hockey journey started over a decade ago and has been magnificent. Nevertheless, it’s end is quite bittersweet. While us team lost both games Saturday, both he and his goalie partner were absolutely outstanding.

Beyond the last hockey game, there’s just an awful lot going on in life right now. Some good and some terrible. The last couple of month have been truly been the most difficult of my life. We, more to the point I could definitely use some prayers. This spring will bring more changes as Goalielocks graduates high school .

I’m certainly not the only mom that feels like I’m balancing the weight of the world on my shoulders. Its a tough gig this motherhood gig. While you’re in the throes of it, time feels like it’s stood still. And then you blink and their adults. As a mother, you give them everything you have no matter on what’s happening in life.

Weight of the world

For women who are ‘difficult’ to love. By Warsan Sire

you are a horse running a lone

and he tries to tame you

compares you to an impossible highway

to a burning house

says you are blinding him

that he could never leave you

forget you

want anything but you

you dizzy him, you are unbearable

every woman before or after you

is doused in your name

you fill his mouth

his teeth ache with memory of taste

his body just a long shadow seeking yours

but you are always too intense

frightening in the way you want him

unashamed and sacrificial

he tells you that no man can live up to the one who

lives in your head

and you tried to change didn’t you?

closed your mouth more

tried to be softer

prettier

less volatile, less awake

but even when sleeping you could feel

him travelling away from you in his dreams

so what did you want to do, love

split his head open?

you can’t make homes out of human beings

someone should have already told you that

and if he wants to leave

then let him leave
