Da Weekend

Da weekend is here and absolutely nothing has changed in our day to day lives from yesterday. I’m just kidding we had a couple of outings today that were essential. We had to pick up a few things for the garden and groceries. Fortunately, we were able to stop by a local farm and get box of vegetables and fruit. The fruit and vegetables look amazing! Plus, the price of $20 total can’t be beat by any super market.

I have been trying to get a Shipt delivery slot since my last delivery on Sunday. Sadly, there were no slots available, which meant for the first time in years I had to fo a full grocery trip myself. Ugh! To say I’ve been spoiled by Shipt would be a compete and utter understatement! Nevertheless, I strapped on my mask and headed to Target.

Target wasn’t too bad, but it’s a pain in the arse wading through the crowds in the aisles. Fortunately or rather unfortunately, I didn’t waste my time with all of the aisles since their selves were empty. Thankfully, I was able to get most of what we needed including Easter candy for the boys. When I got home the boys ripped into me for buying milk that expires in the next two days… Spoiler alert – they’ve already drank one of the gallons I bought. They totally made the milk disappear – problem averted! Sadly, since I couldn’t find enough milk to keep on standby, I’ll have to make another grocery run.

This morning I met my Momcation friends on Zoom for a virtual brunch. It was fantastic. For this glorious occasion, I brought out the Corona Refresca for the first time. It was a bit sweet, but pretty tasty. Of course, the best part was the company. I’m so bummed we won’t be traveling to Turks & Caicos later this month for our annual Momcation. Nonetheless, Zoom brunches and happy hours will help film the void and provide some much needed socialization.

Unfortunately, I also received word today that my dear friend and former employee Michele passed away. The news really took a bite out of my soul. Michele was a one in a million woman. She was simply extraordinary. Every thing this woman faced over the last eleven years, she faced with an uncommon strength and grace. At work, she was the glue that help make our ORS team a family. To say we loved her dearly, would be an understatement. For me she was not only an employee or colleague, she was a friend that became family. Please keep her family and friends in your prayers as they grieved during this difficult time.

Good Friday

Happy Good Friday!! The kid’s were off virtual school today meaning less stress for me. Cheers to a happy and stress free Good Friday. Since the boys didn’t have virtual school, I was able to sleep in a bit too, which was amazing.  It was nice to orchestrate my day around my schedule and not the kids.  That’s right folks we’ve had two good days in a row. Can you believe it?

Much like yesterday, I was pretty productive today. My morning started off with a great yoga class via Zoom with Monica. And of course, I have the pictures to prove it. Actually, the pictures are a great visualization of how far I’ve come and how much further I can go. Also I think it’s important to show yoga at its most accessible. Yoga has been instrumental in my quest for remission, so I’m eager to share my learnings.

After yoga, the Mayor, Maya and I headed to the vet to get her stitches removed. Admittedly, I was totally a proud dog mom when the vet tech was singing Maya’s praises and happy to see her doing so well. The appointment lasted about ten minutes. Afterwards, they brought her back to the car she was all smiles. No more cone or stitches for our girl.

Post vet appointment, I got my week seven day 5 resistance workout completed. My Friday workout is a full body workout. This week’s circuits were tough, but effective. My least favorite is the raised leg sit-ups and skipping rope. I’m not sure what happened between grade school and now, but I suck at skipping rope. Nevertheless, the skipping rope remains one of the most effective workouts even my disjointed effort.

The afternoon I spent with the puppies and my Mayor. I even baked another gluten free coffee cake, but it’s already gone. The hubby made us a wonderful butterflies chicken with yummy potatoes. It is definitely one of my favorite meals! Before dinner, Anakin had to spend some time in timeout after he jumped on the kitchen table. This dog loves his food!

Yesterday, as you may recall, was great. But would you believe it got even better when our Airman called home!?! Best day ever!!! It is so hard to be separated from him during this difficult times, so hearing his voice was awesome. He got his orders for his duty station and will head their immediately upon his completion of tech school. Unfortunately, he won’t be able to come home on leave due to COVID-19 before heading to his FDS. Finally, and most importantly, he’s doing great. He’s excelling at tech school and in the Air Force during challenging times in an already challenging environment. We could not be more proud!

Lastly, please join me in congratulating my parents on their 44th wedding anniversary!!!

Mid Week Fun

Today was a better day and full of mid week fun. If this new normal, is what you call fun. In my estimation, a day where pushback from your star pupils is minimal is a good day. Indeed that is what today brought me. Or so I thought…..

I was quite happy with today’s progress until I got an email from the Mayor’s math teacher regarding incomplete assignments. While I had the foresight to keep a tight eye on Goalielocks, I lacked the perspicacity regarding my youngest. Imagine my surprise when I learned he was missing almost all of his math assignments! Fortunately, his math teacher is on her game and now I know I must micromanage him throughout the day as well. Oh joy!

In addition to teacher’s aide, I also played the role of tech support today. Goalielocks’ auto cad software was not letting him in to complete his work. Naturally, both he and his teacher were getting a bit frustrated with the situation. Tonight I was able to troubleshoot, uninstall, reinstall and get his account fully operational. Unfortunately, he’ll need to get caught up on the last week of work. The good news is he know and auto cad software at home.

I did sneak out for a couple of walks today, which was nice. The dogs and I didn’t make it too far since it was pretty hot out today. Nonetheless, there is nothing better than clear blue skies and palm trees! Of course, the dogs love being outside. Now that there aren’t a lot of people outside, there are birds singing and basilisks all over the place. In fact, that is how Anakin broke the retractable leash on Monday!

0BFC6BAA-7D35-43F2-99F5-DEA6E4B2A2E7

Today was the abs and arm workout for week 7 of BBG. As always, the workout was inventive and challenging. Truly, I never thought I could do that many push-ups in a single workout. I had planned on taking a virtual yoga class this evening, but I fell asleep on my couch at 5:00 pm. Apparently, one cup of coffee was not enough. The Mayor finished off my creamer in his morning coffee. That’s right, he has taken to drinking coffee.

I want to provide an important mid week update on our sweet Maya. Tomorrow it will be two weeks from her surgery. Excitingly, she will have her stitches (and as a consequence her cone) removed Friday. We are so excited for her!!!! She has been dying to play with her siblings, but they’re terrified of her big, blue cone. Unfortunately, her biopsy did not come back favorable. It was definitely cancerous. As you may remember, they found a tumor in her lung last February. They believe her lung and skin tumor are related. Fortunately, the tumor in her lungs has not grown. We should have more information on her prognosis come Friday.

Here’s a list of our day’s activities:

*Reading To the Lighthouse by Virginia Woolf

*Studied and practiced Norwegian

*Watched It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia and the Moonstone

*Watched Remember The Titans

*Completed BBG day 3 week 7 arms and abs workout

*Took Anakin, Maya and Athena on multiple walks

*Worked on Obedience Training with Anakin inside.

*Pulled my hair out (again) managing my teenagers virtual schooling.

*Did our part to flatten the curve by staying home!

Stir Crazy

I’m going stir crazy. The lack of socialization or ability to escape from the current situation is enough to make you whacky. Or perhaps it’s my teenage son that has me teetering on the precipice of insanity. Either way this morning was about the least amount of fun I’ve had since giving birth to my youngest fourteen years ago. God, please give me the grace to survive and thrive virtual schooling.

Nothing like virtual school, teenagers and social distancing to make one feel that one’s life is in shambles. Truthfully, it wouldn’t be so bad if I wasn’t met with an argument every step of the way. I mean seriously is it so hard to follow directions and to do what is asked the first time? Unfortunately, this question is treated as rhetorical eliciting both no action and no response. Raising teenagers is so fun. No, if one wants action or even a response, there was to be some pain. Usually this pain comes from the loss of their phone.

After my yoga class this afternoon and a mother argument with my star pupils, I had to get out of the house. Thankfully, the weather was absolutely perfect today, so Anakin and I went for a walk. By the time I got back from my walk, my pupil had realized the errors of his ways, was completing his work and apologized. It was all is simple. All he had to do was get his work done the first time he was asked instead of fighting it.

As for my yoga class, it was super awesome. I love my Tuesday crew. Additionally, keeping my yoga routine is a helpful way to keep both mentally and physically fit. Today was my run day, but the weather was a bit suspect this morning. If there’s thunder close to the area, I don’t run. Also, everything below my waist is pretty sore from yesterday’s workout, so. A run later in the week may be more productive. Fortunately, I got several walks in with the dogs. Moreover, I even got a little bit of a run in this morning when Anakin snapped the retractable leash. Oh yes, today was quite the adventure.

Earlier this winter I bought a beginner’s knitting kit at Barnes and Noble. It’s been collecting dust in my room until today. Here’s what I’ve learned. The manufacturer and I have very different definitions as to the definition of beginner. Additionally, no amount of supplementary YouTube videos are going to help me understand the patterns in the book. Alas the moral of the story is that I will not be learning to knit on my own. I will definitely need to take some classes.

Here’s a list of our day’s activities:

*Reading To the Lighthouse by Virginia Woolf

*Watched Monty Python’s Parrot Show and Parks and Rec

*Watched Ice Age

*Completed BBG day 2 week 7 recovery workout – full body

*Attended Gentle Flow Yoga with Monica from Open Heart Yoga Studio

*Took Anakin, Maya and Athena on multiple walks

*Worked on Obedience Training with Anakin inside.

*Pulled my hair out (again) managing my teenagers virtual schooling.

Back to Virtual School

Yesterday was Sunday, which means today is Monday and back to virtual school for my boys. Oh yes, queue the return of the high blood pressure and mental breakdowns. Clearly, this is the scarlet O’hare moment – the role of a lifetime only I’ll be coming away with a Razzie instead of an Oscar. Also I’m wearing yoga pants for the fourth century in a row and not a beautiful dress.

F8DBEC66-E39C-44CE-9103-99102502DEA0

The battle started early when I tried to get Goalielocks out of bed at 8:30. Last night he agreed that 8:30 am was a reasonable time to rise and get started. Our conversation, in fact, was quite precise on this timeframe. Sadly, this morning he completely abandoned that sentiment. I never imagined I’d be spending my mornings yelling to get my Goalie out of bed to attend virtual school. Ultimately, it took over a half an hour to get him up and moving. You can only imagine the pleasantries exchanged during that half hour.

CDBB94CD-76F6-4EE6-BFDB-7556631D0022

Naturally, I took to my yoga mat to recenter and recharge. Normally, I complete my BBG resistance workout in the morning, but today I flipped my schedule. Instead I took a gentle flow yoga class with my dear friend and teacher Monica from Yoga Mundo. This morning it was just me in the class, which made for a great, personalized session. The virtual yoga classes have been a great tool to stay connected with my friends, but also continue my practice. Over the past six months, my practice has grown exponentially and I’m anxious to build on those gains.

By the time I finished my yoga class, my Mayor was starting to make lunch. He sautéed onions and chicken to serve with gluten free spaghetti and marinara sauce. First of all, it was awesome because he made it, which means I didn’t. Secondly, the food was absolutely delicious. I’m fairly certain that my Mayor is the best chef in the house. Needless to say, I’m thrilled that he’ll be continuing with the culinary program in high school next year.

After a brief nap with the puppies on the couch, I went to complete my resistance workout. I just started BBG week 7 and it’s a real ass locker. Honestly, by the fourth round of burpees, I had no bounce left and my hands were tired. Not to mention my legs were ready to collapse. These workouts are phenomenal and truly keep you moving and your pulse rate high. At the same time, I’ve never been stronger in my life. Plus, I’m desperately trying to fight off the quarantine fifteen with a non functioning thyroid!

As soon as I finished my workout, I turned on the Keurig and brewed some coffee. I was utterly and completely exhausted after the workout. Not to mention, I had to go immediately back to being headmaster of Hockey Mom Fit’s Virtual Reform School for Boys. I know what you’re thinking, but unfortunately I’m out of Bailey’s. When the hubby got home, I let him know that after only five days of virtual school I have earned a trip to Europe. Moreover, I’m half way to earning a trip to Fiji. Ideally, I would be transported this evening to Fjord Norway, but sadly that won’t happen. Anyway, this is not easy, but we will succeed.  Namaste my friends!

Adventure Time

It was adventure time for the Hubby and I this morning as we headed to BJ’s Wholesale Club for essentials. Obviously, this was a trip of last resort. Ordinarily I have my groceries delivered, but due to COVID19 all the delivery slots were full. In fact, it feels like we haven’t been there since the distant past (i.e. before Jake graduated.) It’s not that we avoid this store because we’re afraid of the virus. No, we avoid it because the snowbird clientele and the exercise in patience it takes to survive the trip. Ideally, we would have had the items delivered as that is the safest route.

Since delivery was not an option in the foreseeable future, we planned our trip for early Sunday morning. After a quick stop to pick up my coffee at Dunkin’, we headed to BJ’s to get in line to enter the store when they opened at 9:00. Fortunately, the line was not atrocious when we got there. However, Shortly afterwards the line grew exponentially. Thank God we got there early. By the time we were checking out, the store had already sold out of toilet paper and paper towel!
51C80841-CC88-41B2-BEB7-C804F9F2D512

As for the shopping experience itself, it was great. The store’s stocks were lower, but we were able to get everything on our list less chocolate milk and Nutella. Additionally, I thought they had good limits on key items, so nobody could hoard stuff. One thing I liked better was how they ran the checkout line. Ordinarily it’s pick a line any line and it can take forever. Today they had one line from which an employee directed the customer to the next open cash register. Consequently, it resulted in a speedier, less frustrating shopping experience. Truly, it was quite the clever setup!

I feel much better now that we’re well stocked on the essentials. Previously, I was worried that we were going to run out of of something or everything all at once. Peace of mind sometimes comes from unexpected quarters, but hey I’ll take it! In a tremendous stroke of lucky, I was also able to place a Target order via Shipt for today, so we’re all good to go for a productive week. Translation: I was able to get enough milk today, so I won’t have to go back to the store until Wednesday!

As soon as we got back, the hubby put a Boston but pork roast in the smoker. Can I tell you how good our patio smelled today? While he manned the smoker and fixed our screen, I made sure the coffee cake dish got cleaned. Obviously, I had to contrive something yummy to dinner since the Hubby was smoking a roast. Consequently, I made up the gluten free brownies. They’re fantastic! To be honest, I think I prefer the coffee cake. Nonetheless both gluten free mixes from Krusteaz were really tasty and good texture.

The rest of the day was well spent cuddling with my puppy, who had a bit a of a stomachache. After vomiting this morning, he seems to be feeling much better. Nonetheless, we’ve tried to keep him calm and relaxing on the couch all day. Clearly, it was a hard sacrifice for me to make, but I was a good companion to Anakin today.

Lastly, my hubby had to go check on a job yesterday in Miami.  He took a picture of I-95 in downtown Miami at 12:30 pm and there is absolutely nobody on the road.  We’ve been down here for several hurricanes and we’ve never seen I-95 empty like it was yesterday, but I’m sure the express lane was still charging an $11 toll.

Here’s a list of our day’s activities:

*Reading To the Lighthouse by Virginia Woolf

*Watched Family Guy and some Nature shows

*Started to re-build our garden

*Home Depot run for more supplies for our garden

*Took Anakin, Maya and Athena on a walk

*Worked on Obedience Training with  Anakin

Sleepy Saturday

No surprise here, but it was another sleepy Saturday. Normally, Saturdays would be are craziest day of the week running errands and running from rink to rink. With the pandemic, all of that has come to an end. No longer are there frivolous errands to fill the day, which is probably a blessing since we’re spending a lot less money.

Fortunately, my puppies were more than happy to keep me company throughout this sleep Saturday. Anakin is now four months old, but still naps quite a bit. Thankfully, his big sisters are also ballers. All four of us spent a lot of the day chillaxing on the couch. We’ve been pretty lucky with all three dogs as they’re all calm and very sweet.

Actually, I did have a productive morning. I was able to clean out the laundry room and get some paperwork filed away. I’ll be finishing the laundry room and laundry tomorrow. Luckily, I had Anakin to help me find errant socks and dryer sheets. While I was cleaning at home, the hubby was looking at a job in Dade. Construction workers are considered essential in Florida, so thankfully he’s still able to work.

Initially, I had planned to make a supply run early this morning. However, I decided to wait until tomorrow since the Hubby had to drive to Miami for work. Thankfully, Terri and P.J. came to our rescue dropping off toilet paper and kleenexes. Thank you both! You guys are the real heroes! Since we weren’t going grocery shopping today, we decided we’d go to Home Depot to get plants for our garden.
441FA9F0-A6DA-4E94-BB6D-2034CA868BBC

We used to keep a garden regularly B.H (aka before hockey,) but with work and hockey we didn’t have the time to maintain it. Now that we’re gone and there ‘s no hockey, it is the perfect time to re-do the garden. The Hubby made the Depot run while I watched the dogs. We had to pickup more wood build a new garden box. Sadly, the old garden box had started to rot and needed to be replaced.

Hubby and the Mayor spent the evening pulling weeds and the aloe out of the garden. Unfortunately, I struggle with allergies in our back yard because of the mango tree and various other plants. Consequently, while they worked I slaved away on my phone ordering takeout on Door Dash. By the time our food was delivered, the garden had started to take shape and was looking great. We need to pick up a couple more boards, but the garden should be done tomorrow. We’re planting tomatoes, sweet potatoes, cucumbers, peas and a bunch of vegetables via seed. In the garden already is a rosemary bush and of course our pineapple plants.

Wish us luck as we venture out tomorrow morning to grab groceries and household supplies. I hate the thought of going out, but none of the delivery services have any openings. Afterwards, we’ll be working on finishing the garden and cleaning up the house. Fortunately, once the garden gets going, we’ll have a better and safer way to get our produce. I’ll also take the dogs for a walk during our street, so long as the weather cooperates. Now I’m off to relax and claim my rightful place as champion of this sleepy Saturday.
