Life at The Manor

Life at the manor, aka Casa de Hockey Mom, was uneventful and pleasant today. Imagine if you will a beautiful, temperate Florida day with wonderfully blue skies and minimal clouds. Now imagine spending that day inside because you’re exhausted from the preceding six days and just want to chillax. This my friends is what we called a balanced existence. After a frazzled and productive week, Sunday was meant to be a rest day.

A few years ago, I would have taken advantage of the weather and went out for a long run. Sadly, my body needs at least a full days rest to keep up with the BBG workouts, runs and yoga classes. Consequently, taking a rest day for me is a marker of personal growth; a modicum of moderation if you will. Nonetheless, if I push it too far with exercise, I end up losing a week to two when my body rebels. Oh the joys of getting older with an autoimmune disease! Fortunately, my meditation practice does not take a rest day.

While today was a rest day, I still had a productive day around the house. As noted above, I got my morning and afternoon mediations on the books. Moreover, I got the floors vacuumed, disinfected and mopped. Truly, the clean floors made me feel so much better and relaxed. Of course, the background noise is always important when it comes to doing housework. Today’s choice was Curb Your Enthusiasm. As always, Larry David does not disappoint. I love his wit. Basically, I spent my afternoon cleaning while laughing at the hi-jinks of Larry and his crew. Needless to say it was pretty, pretty, pretty good.

For dinner I made my second meal from Blue Apron. Tonight’s meal was Tuscan pork pasta. Just like yesterday’s meal, the recipe was easy to follow. Since my family doesn’t like peppers, I sautéed them in a separate pan, so as to not wreck the meal for them. Fortunately, I love peppers and was happy to not have to share them with anyone. My only complaint with both meals was that they were higher in sodium than what I would normally eat. Nonetheless the quality of the food is good as is the quantity.

Our post dinner treat was a call from our airmen. He’s doing so good in tech school. We miss him so much, but we’re so proud of him. Basically, he’s trucking a long right through his tech school. Originally, we thought he’d be done sometime in July, but now it seems like it may be late this month or early next month. Correspondingly, he’ll be moving on to his final base once training is over. Significantly, he loves what he’s doing, where he’s at and where he’s headed. Lastly, you may have seen my previous post on puppy yoga. If you didn’t, please check it out. I’m hoping to post a weekly video of Anakin and I practicing yoga.

Here’s a list of our day’s activities:

*Reading Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte

*Watched Curb Your Enthusiasm

*Morning and afternoon meditation

*Week 10 BBG day 7 rest

*Obedience training Anakin courtesy day Goalielocks

*Took Anakin, Maya and Athena on a walk.

Puppy Yoga

Since it’s Sunday and I forgot to include the videos yesterday, I thought I’d do a special post on puppy yoga. After all what makes people smile more than puppies?!?! Nothing! Usually Anakin isn’t in the room while I practice, but I forgot to close the door. From now on, I’ll try to post a weekly video of Anakin and I’s puppy yoga practice.

Here’s our videos of our headstand practice from yesterday. Enjoy and namaste!

Beautiful Day

It was another beautiful day here in South Forcina. Clear blue skies, low humidity and decent temperatures made for a very pleasant day. I had hoped to run today, but a cramp in my calf and my left hip felt otherwise. Consequently, I’ve learned my lesson about pushing it too far when injured, so I skipped the run. Hopefully, my calf and hip are feeling better tomorrow.

Since I wasn’t going to run, I took a ninety minute vinyasa class with Monica. It was challenging physically and mentally, but oh so good. One thing I enjoy about Monica’s class is here creative flow. Moreover, today’s class had more of an ashtanga flavor to it for my benefit. Specifically, this will help me with my yoga teacher training. Thankfully, today’s flow gave me some cardio work along with a lot of strength and breath work. I even nailed my crow pose today!!! Yay!

As you may recall, my Goalielocks is on the third shift. Consequently, I usually let him sleep in on weekends for the benefit of everyone. Since my class was 90 minutes, I didn’t go up it wake him up until 12:30 pm. Naturally, I had reservations about doing this post class because I was in such a zen place. Surprisingly, Goalielocks woke up easily and was pleasant. Talk about winning!!

My afternoon was spent hanging out with the dogs and doing stuff around the house. I may also have watched the latest episode of Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist. Overall, I really liked the latest episode. Particularly, I loved Bernadette Peters cameo. She’s an absolutely brilliant singer and actress. I really enjoyed her scenes. Naturally, all the men in my house to fail to recognize the awesomeness of this show. As a result, I watch it when the Hubby isn’t home and the boys are busy.

This evening started with a great headstand practice with Anakin. When I started my practice tonight, I didn’t really anticipate that it would be partner yoga. Fortunately, Anakin had a different idea. Every time I would bring my feet in and my hips up, he’d crawl underneath me and lick my face incessantly. Honestly, it was the cutest thing ever and made me laugh. After I made several interrupted attempts, I decided to call it a night. Clearly, Anakin had other plans in mind.

For dinner, I made the first of four Blue Apron meals I ordered. Initially I ordered in the beginning of April, due to shortages at the grocery store. Of course, due to an uptick in their volume, they couldn’t accommodate our orders until this week. Tonight the Mayor and I made soy glazed chicken with brown rice, sugar snap peas and mushrooms. The recipe was easy to follow and the food tasted great. I’m looking forward to our next dish.

Here’s a list of our day’s activities:

*Reading Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte

*Vinyasa Yoga with Monica from Yoga Mundo

*Watched Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist

*Morning and afternoon meditation

*Week 10 BBG day 6 yoga

*Obedience training Anakin courtesy day Goalielocks

*Took Anakin, Maya and Athena on a walk.

Margaritaville

It’s Friday and it’s been a long week, so it’s off to Margaritaville for me. And by Margaritaville, I do mean the state of kind. Yes, sir It’s Five O’Clock Somewhere! Consequently the hubby and I are enjoying the pitcher of margaritas that came with dinner. While I rarely drink anymore, today felt like a good day to break the dry spell. Not too mention a good margarita is pretty persuading.

After what felt like a week full of virtual school overtime, I am more than ready for a break and the weekend. Markedly, we had a really productive week, but it was exhausting. I’ve had to get very granular with each boy on their assignments. Even so, it doesn’t feel like I’m doing an adequate job. Moreover, it doesn’t feel like the work ever end, which isn’t to say they’re being assigned too much work. Rather it’s a reflection of the sure energy output required to get one assignment adequately completed. Like I told my hubby, I’ve definitely earned a European vacation for the work I’ve put in this past month.

This morning I had a lab appointment at Quest, which was an adventure. I hadn’t been to this location in along time as my doctor’s office normally does my bloodwork. Unfortunately, due to the pandemic, they’re only doing bloodwork for patients with appointments. Thankfully, I didn’t have to wait too long since I had an appointment. However, during that short time severe elderly patients had come into the lab.

This location has no from desk only kiosks where you can check in. Sadly, an elderly couple was completely confounded by the technology. They were so stressed. Fortunately, the lab tech was able to say yes and get the elderly man in the schedule. At that moment, I was grateful for everything my parents do for my grandma’s. Conversely, I was sad that this elderly couple had nobody to help them navigate the new technology. Thankfully, the lab tech was very nice and patient.

After my lab appointment, I did my BBG ab workout for week ten. Those damn, confounded burpees with a push up and tuck jump were again included in the workout. Needless to say those things are pure evil. As for the rest of the workout, it was great. Naturally, it was challenging, but outside of the burpees it was manageable and felt great. After four circuits, I had completed 90 pushups and 60 half burpees along with a lot of other exercises. Clearly, I better have six pack abs tomorrow!

Afterwards I hastily ate lunch as I made preparations for day one of yoga teacher training with Monica. Right at 1:00 pm, I was ready to start my yoga teacher journey. Naturally, I also had my second cup of coffee on hand. Today’s class included a five minute meditation, which was great. As for coursework, we spent the session learning about the rich history of yoga. Truly, it was really interesting. I’m super excited to be on this journey.

Post training, I had to go back to reality and deal with virtual school. Naturally, I found myself needing a meditation time out relatively soon thereafter. I’ve started an afternoon meditation practice devoted to stopping bad habits. Day one was cravings, day 2 was worry and today was negative thoughts. It’s a short meditation and easy to fit into anyone’s schedule. Subsequently, I was ready to tackle the rest of my school day after the mediation.

Tonight we’ve taken a delightful trip to Margaritaville come plate with an amazing dinner catered by Dinners in Motion. Honestly, their food is incredible as is their price. You can’t beat a full taco dinner (chicken and steak,) dessert and a carafe of margaritas plus delivery for $70. We have had some great experience supporting our local restaurants during this pandemic. We are so fortunate to have so many talented and creative chefs in our community. Lastly, it’s been a great time to support the industry and those that work within. The first time we ordered from Dinners in Motion they were operating on a skeleton staff. Not even two weeks later, they have rehired fourteen people. If someone tells you that you can’t do good thing supporting your local restaurants, they’re lying to you!

Here’s a list of our day’s activities:

*Reading Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte

*Yoga Teacher Training with Monica from Yoga Mundo

*Morning and afternoon meditation

*Week 10 BBG day 5 Abs baby!

*Virtual school torture with Goalielocks and the Mayor
